Join us Saturday, February 24 from 6 PM – 9PM as we transform our backstage spaces into a pop-up gallery experience showcasing talented Black artists in the Huntsville community.
Immerse yourself in original artworks exploring themes of identity, community, societal expectations, and empowerment. Browse powerful pieces and meet the local artists behind the work:
Raven Armstead: Multi-media Canvas Art
“As an artist, my goal is to transform flat surfaces into expressive stories that convey my unique perspective, while welcoming open minds and souls to relate in their own way. My latest work centers on finding balance and staying true to oneself amidst societal expectations as we build and nourish our personal lives. Overall, my art contributes to the universal conversation about sharing and receiving emotions and strength.”
Tiffany Tuck: Canvas Art
“My appreciation for art started as soon as I was old enough to hold a crayon. As a child, I often enjoyed doing various arts and craft projects with my mother who always nurtured my artistic talent [and continually reminded me] that “it’s selfish not to share a gift that God has blessed me with.” I am constantly searching the most sacred parts of who I am to bring my creative essence to life. After losing my mother to cancer in 2022, my passion for Art has become extremely personal and on some days, my lifeline. I know there is no better way to honor her words of wisdom than to keep ‘creating and sharing.’”
Chantell Box: Multi-technique Canvas Art
“From the outset of my career, my passion for creation has driven me. As a Black woman, my artwork resonates with the essence of my cultural background and lived experiences. Drawing inspiration from my heritage, history, and everyday life, I utilize both digital and traditional painting techniques to navigate and uplift the Black experience. My artistic pursuit aims to encapsulate the vibrancy and beauty inherent in Black culture, serving as a celebration of Black joy while grappling with the intricacies of Black life. Themes of identity, and community, thread through my creations, acting as a catalyst for contemplation and a source of inspiration for change.”
Allisa Hutchinson: Canvas Art & Storytelling
“My artwork is an accumulation of story ideas and concepts I’ve been developing for the past few years. In my stories, I want the characters I create to be embraced for who they are and not simply for the groups they represent or the differences that set them apart from the majority. I hope to make stories that’ll help people escape like I did when I was a kid, but I also want to make stories that will help us all connect and understand one another…I want my characters to be seen as people. People who have struggles, fears, strengths, weaknesses, and bonds with the people and world around them.”
Elaine Nelson: Canvas Art
“There are not enough words to express [my] gratefulness to God. That [I] not only survived the fires of life, but was put in the position to thrive, by sharing [my] gifts with the world.” Elaine, an original thinker and creator for over 20 years, is currently doing a balancing act between her painting and recently becoming a first-time published author. One of her acrylic paintings, titled “King Snoop Dogg,” was presented to Snoop Dogg during his first appearance in Huntsville in 2023.
This event is free to attend and open to all ages. Alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.
